As the name suggests, the sole mission of the Coalition is to see the establishment of Human Rights and Democracy in Bangladesh. It goes without saying that these two areas have been utterly abused and destroyed in Bangladesh, particularly since the current authoritarian regime illegally usurped power since January 2009 through successive managed and fraudulent elections. The voice of the people and media have been silenced and gagged through various draconian state regulations. They groan silently and haplessly. As such, the mission of CHRD Bangladesh is twofold:
First, to develop awareness among the people of their rights, privileges and responsibilities, focusing on democratic and human rights values. The people need to be active and demand their rights.
Second, to approach local and international authorities to exercise their leverages on Bangladesh to abide by international norms of human rights and democracy in the country. The donor countries may even consider sanctioning the Bangladesh authoritarian regime to mend its ways.
